History
1888 – 2020
Before we start into the History of the Lodge, we would like to give the History of the Brethren that had the foresight to start a Lodge in Swansboro, NC:
Swansboro — We sometimes see a succession of family members joining the Craft. A son follows a father who followed a grandfather. Multiple generations being raised together are more unusual. Family pride must have been at an all time high recently when Seaside 429 raised three relatives at the same time. Edgar Harrell Smith was joined by his son Stephen Harrell Smith and his son-in-law David Jospeh Gillis at a triple raising. Both Stephen and David were wounded in the line of military service, Stephen in Vietnam and David in Desert Storm. Edgar was luckier.
